The apple you did not bite still rots in your stomach.
“Eve, How Could You?”is a relief sculpture and drawing that opens up and looks inside of the abdomen to investigate the concept of original sin as it relates emotionally to disability and pain. It examines as metaphor the idea that the original sin — Eve biting the apple — stays inherently within everyone. It brings into reality a guilty and irrational answer to the question “what did I do to deserve this?” by answering that all humans immutably carry sin, and thus inherently deserve punishment. It is an exploration of the ways I struggle to accept the injustice of disability and crave to justify it through any means necessary.
